The line-up of the Rik van den Bergh / Bart van Lier 5tet is unique in Dutch jazz-history. There was never before a frontline of trombone and baritone saxophone. Due to this line-up ànd the musicians who play the instruments, the sound of the band is unheard! Sometimes it is light, sometimes heavy, sometimes hot and sometimes cool .. but always tremendous warm. The band has its roots in the bop of the fifties and sixties but the tree that grows on stage is certainly contemporary. All members of the quintet are playing together with an tremendous amount of love for the music and fun in playing.

You see it, you hear it and you feel it!

Rik van den Bergh Bart van Lier

Bart van Lier trombone - is one of the most important European trombone player of his generation. He started as a studio musician, developed himself as leading soloist and became an important mentor of a complete trombone generation later on. As a jazz-improviser he combines delicacy with sophisticated technique and a sense of adventure. None of his solos is the same and every improvisation is like jumping of a cliff. At this moment Bart is a member of the Metropole Orchestra and the Masha Bijlsma Quintet.

Rik van den Bergh baritone saxophone - is one of the few Dutch saxophonists who dedicated himself completely to the baritone only. His playing is rooted in that of Pepper Adams. Rik had his own baritone/organ-quartet Swingmatism for years and was seated in the Young Sinatras and the Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra. His most recent recording is Reserge, a tribute to the legendary Serge Chaloff. At this moment he is also musically active with his trio (with Durk Hijma and Frans van Geest).

Edgar van Asselt piano - is a very versatile piano player. He toured and recorded with ex-Blakey tenor saxophonist David Schnitter. Their album Penpals received great reviews by press and audience alike. He also toured with Tango Extremo / Gustavo Mozzi and percussionist Fucunda Guevara. For a few years Edgar was the pianist of the Young Sinatras. He toured with trumpeter Philip Harper and played with Bob and Chuck Findley among others.

Marius Beets double bass - is playing bass in the Beets Brothers and the Houdini's. He played with countless greats from around the international jazz world and not without a reason! Marius is also teacher at the Codarts Conservatory Rotterdam en sound engineer in his own Studio De Smederij. In every band they play Marius and Eric Ineke form a extraordinary strong and solid rhythmic basis. Both of them make part of the Rein de Graaff Trio and The Eric Ineke JazzXpress.

Eric Ineke drums - has an enormous service record as a drummer. The amount of jazz heroes he played with is almost endless (Dexter Gordon, Johnny Griffin, Lucky Thompson, Phil Woods, Lee Konitz, James Moody, just to name a few) ... for an overview and great photo’s, please visit ericineke.com >>>. He leads his own quintet: The Eric Ineke Jazz Xpress. Eric is also a teacher at the Royal Conservatory The Hague. Eric is a drummer with an unbelievable experience and his playing is always saturated with passion for the music, combined with so much joy in playing it.
